RIP Smokey
My childhood pet passed away last night in her sleep. Smokey has been a member of our family since I was 11. She lived a long life, and I couldn't have asked for a better kitty. We will miss her.
Here's a picture circa 2004:

Going for 2 on Friday
On Saturday, we went to Boone to watch Appalachian whip the Youngstown State Penguins 49-24. We have a couple pictures at the end of the Boone 2006 album. Yes that is snow on the ground, and the last picture is of the goalpost in Duck Pond. We've already got our tickets and hotel reservations for Friday night's championship game in Chattanooga. Game time is 8PM, and broadcast will be on ESPN2 (and ESPN2-HD).

Kim family found, James still missing
For those of you that haven't been following the story, James Kim is a senior editor for CNET. His family went missing almost a week ago while traveling to Oregon. The good news is that his wife and two children were found yesterday, and are in good condition. Hopefully James will be found today before having to endure another night in the wilderness.

Halo 3 commercial and beta signup
The new Halo 3 trailer debuted on TV last night. You can download a small streaming version from Xbox.com. I'm sure an HD version will be posted later, or you can download the HD version on your 360 via Xbox Live.
Also, the beta signup is officially live on Halo3.com. Of course, I signed up this morning.....

Quiet Your Xbox 360
ExtremeTech has a nice article on how to make your Xbox 360 a little less noisy. I agree the system can be a little annoying when playing a DVD-based game, but it's no worse than the original xbox, PS2, or my desktop PC. If I get brave enough one day, maybe I'll give it a shot.

ASU heads to Semifinals
After a 38-17 win over Montana State on Saturday, Appalachian State heads to the semifinals next weekend. We bought our tickets as soon as they went on sale, without even knowing if the game would be on Friday or Saturday. Luckily, the game is going to be 4PM on Saturday. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN, which is the first time since 1979. Hopefully the weather will cooperate, and App will come out with another commanding win.
