Rescue Me scheduled to return

This may not be anything new, but I just found out yesterday. F/X Networks has agreed to pick up Rescue Me for a second season. Details here. The 2nd season is set to start in August 2005.

If you haven't had a chance to check it out, look for the reruns of season 1 on Sunday nights at 11:00 PM. Also, there are rumors that the Season 1 DVD will be released a couple weeks before the Season 2 premiere.

I hate spam!

So, I'm still getting trackback spam. (No big surprise). So, I installed a new plugin called MT-Moderate. It will allow me to moderate the trackbacks. I don't know why MT doesn't include this feature with their default installation.....

Anyway, check here for more info.

UPDATE: The plugin works great. Big thanks to the developers that created it.

Trailblazer SS

New details regarding the Chevrolet Trailblazer SS have been released from the New York Auto Show. AutoBlog has the details here. Includes some fairly impressive numbers:

.....powered by a 391 hp/395 lb-ft of torque version of the LS2 6.0-liter V-8, it can be ordered with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Chevy is estimating the 0-60 time at 5.7 seconds.....

Keep an eye on Chevy's website for more info, or for details on the other newly introduced SS models. Although it looks really cool, unfortunately I'm sure it will be overpriced. And with current gas prices, who can afford to drive it?

Relay for Life

Next month, Sarah and her fellow graduate students will be taking part in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Beginning at 5 pm on April 15th and continuing until 8 am on the following morning, they will take turns walking around the Spec Town Track. This year, over 100 teams and 2500 individuals are expected to participate in UGAs Relay for Life. Their goal this year is to raise more than $200,000 to help fight cancer. These funds will be used to fund research, public and medical education, and patient services.

Any contribution will help the American Cancer Society. Donations can be made on-line by clicking here.

Frank Caliendo

Last night we went to Charlie Goodnights to see Frank Caliendo perform. Frank is famous for his performances on MadTV and on FOX's NFL coverage. You can download some of his sound clips from his website here.

It was a great show, and I'd recommend checking out the other dates if you are free. The opening acts were good too. Lumpy was the host, and did a funny 10 minute set. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the opening act, and the wrong guy is listed on Charlie Goodnight's site. Sorry.

After the show we talked with Frank for a bit and got him to sign a couple of his CDs. Seems like a nice guy. Overall, definitely worth 35 bucks for the show.

Bootable Linux iPod

Now here's an interesting idea. Terra Soft Solutions is now accepting orders for their new line of Linux bootable iPod and FireWire drives. Order here.

Boot Yellow Dog Linux from your iPod and play your music too! Yes, this really works. We have partitioned your iPod and installed Yellow Dog Linux for you. You need only select it at boot having held the OPTION key. Linux + music on a single box the size of an ... iPod! You don't need anything else but a G4 or G5 Mac at your destination and you are ready to go!

Apparently, if you already have an iPod, you can download the installer if you have a YDL.net Enhanced account.

How to buy an expiring domain name

Mike Davidson has a very interesting article on how to snatch up an expiring domain name. Full story here.

Chris Paul suspended

Wake Forest's Chris Paul has been suspended for the first game of the ACC tournament. Full story here. I agree with the decision. If there's one thing you don't do, it's punch somebody in that 'special place'.

This could make for an interesting tournament. N.C. State plays Florida State in the first round. The winner will play Wake Forest. So there could be a rematch of the WFU/NCSU game on Friday, except this time Wake will be missing one of their star players.

Google Desktop

Decided to install the 1.0 release of Google Desktop this morning. It now includes FireFox and Trillian support. You can get it here. Don't forget to pickup the Trillian plugin here.

So looks like Scott beat me to the punch.

Currently my install shows:

One-time index update in progress.
1% complete with about 0.1 idle hours left.
122 items indexed so far.

So it will be a little while before I get to give it a test run.

Spam sucks

I've decided to turn off trackback on new posts. MT-Blacklist catches the majority of the spammers, but sometimes they get through for a bit until I can blacklist them. Since I don't have hardly any 'real' trackback pings, I don't think it's worth the hassle to leave the feature enabled. Maybe eventually MT will figure a way to truly stop the spammers, until then I'll live without trackback.

How did I miss that?

The Teutuls were in Clayton yesterday showing off their newest creation, the Caterpillar chopper. I wish I would have known earlier, so I could have gone to check it out. Video from WRAL here (IE only). It looks pretty sweet. The episode airs April 4th on Discovery.

Also, here is some information about the CAT factory in Clayton in case you want to take a tour.

iPod integration part II

Previously, I mentioned I was working on hooking up my iPod to my truck's radio. I have now completed the install.

First, I bought an accessory power outlet from Radio Shack similar to this item. I spliced the outlet into the rear accessory power in the center console. This will allow the original port to continue functioning. The Belkin F8V7058-APL adapter works great, and includes a nifty adjustable amplifier to boost the sound output of the iPod.

I then removed the 'bucket' where the CDs are stored in the center console and drilled a 1 inch hole in the back. I wish I could have made a smaller hole, but unfortunately the dock connector is fairly wide. After that, it was just a matter of hiding all the cables and plugging everything up. Now I have a fully concealed installation, with easy access to the iPod if I want to change songs. Overall it was a fun little project, and when I have some time, I'll post some install photos.
